How This Site Works

No rented test fleet and no benchmark figures of our own. Every number is a provider's published one, read on a stated date.

Prices from the source

Plan prices, specifications and locations come from the provider's own plan page or public API (Hetzner's price API, Vultr's and Linode's plans endpoints, OVHcloud's catalog) on the day a page is updated, and each revised page lists its sources.

Rules before data

Each comparison page states its ranking rule (cheapest at 2 GB in a US datacenter, transfer per dollar, Windows with the license included) before prices are collected. A provider is first only on pages whose rule it wins.

Terms in the provider's words

Refund rules, support scope, port and traffic statements are quoted from the provider's FAQ or terms rather than paraphrased, so you can read what you are agreeing to.

Measure it yourself

Where performance matters, pages point to provider speed-test files and to fio and iperf3 commands you can run on an hourly server, because a number measured on your plan today is worth more than one we could publish.

Ratings weigh price at the size in question, published terms, what is included, and transparency. Editorial policy · About the site

Top USA VPS Providers, At a Glance

Three picks for three different buyers, at September 2026 prices. Each wins the rule its page is ranked by; none wins every rule.

Our recommendation: For a small US server on a budget, InterServer is the lowest monthly price we track: $3 per 2 GB slice in New York City, Los Angeles or Dallas, with OS-level support included and no introductory price to expire. At 4 GB, OVHcloud VPS-1 ($5.35, Virginia or Oregon, daily backup included) is a dollar less than InterServer's two slices. If you need hourly billing, an API or a city neither covers, Vultr from $5.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best VPS hosting in the USA?

It depends on the rule. For the lowest monthly price at 2 GB in a US datacenter, InterServer ($3 a slice, New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas). For 4 GB, OVHcloud VPS-1 ($5.35, Virginia or Oregon, backup included). For hourly billing, an API and the most US regions, Vultr (from $5, nine regions). For the most memory per dollar, Contabo ($6.60 for 8 GB on a 200 Mbit/s port). Prices are from the providers' pages and APIs in September 2026.

What is the cheapest VPS in the USA?

For a usable Linux server (2 GB), InterServer at $3 a month. Below that are 512 MB servers: Vultr at $3.50, DigitalOcean at $4, and RackNerd at $26.99 a year (about $2.25 a month), with RackNerd's promotional prices lower during its sales. The cheapest VPS page ranks every plan under $7.

Do you benchmark VPS providers?

No. This site publishes no CPU, disk or network measurements of its own, and pages that once carried such figures are being revised to remove them. Pages quote what providers publish (port statements, traffic allowances, storage type) and show how to measure a server yourself with fio and iperf3 on an hourly plan.

Do I need a managed or an unmanaged VPS?

If you can administer Linux (SSH, packages, a firewall, backups), an unmanaged plan is the cheaper buy and most plans on this site are unmanaged. If you need someone to fix the operating system, price a managed tier: Hostwinds sells one from $10.99 for 1 GB, InterServer includes OS-level support on every plan and fuller managed support from 8 slices ($24), and panel hosts such as InMotion (from $9.99 on a 24-month term) and GreenGeeks (from $69.95) are fully managed.

Which VPS is best for WordPress?

A 4 GB plan with a page cache and a database on the same box: OVHcloud VPS-1 ($5.35, NVMe, backup included) or InterServer 2 slices ($6, three US cities, OS-level support). For a managed WordPress stack on cloud infrastructure, Cloudways from $11 a month. The WordPress VPS page goes through sizing.

Is cloud VPS better than traditional VPS?

Cloud platforms (Vultr, DigitalOcean, Linode, Hetzner) bill by the hour, expose an API and include snapshots; fixed-price hosts (InterServer, OVHcloud, Contabo, Hostwinds, RackNerd) bill monthly and cost less per gigabyte. For a server that runs all month and is never scripted, the fixed-price host is the better buy; for servers you create and destroy, the cloud platform is.

How much does a VPS cost per month?

In a US datacenter, billed monthly with no contract: $3 to $6 for 2 to 4 GB (InterServer, OVHcloud), $10 to $12 for 8 GB (OVHcloud, InterServer) or $6.60 at Contabo on a slower port, and $24 to $27.50 for 16 to 24 GB. Cloud platforms cost two to four times that at the same memory. Windows adds $9 to $10 a month or more. The VPS pricing page has the full table and a calculator.
