How to Use Contabo Cloud VPS 4 (2026): 8 GB on a 200 Mbit/s Port

Use Cloud VPS 4 when the job needs 8 GB and can live with a 200 Mbit/s port. On 7 October 2026 that card is 4 vCPU, 100 GB SSD, one snapshot, and unlimited traffic under a fair-usage line. The card shows a previous price of €5.50 and a displayed price of €4.40 per month, for the first 24 months. A faster port is a larger plan.

✓ 8 GB is the advantage
✓ 200 Mbit/s is the port
✓ 14 days for consumers

  • Card: 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD, 1 snapshot, 200 Mbit/s, unlimited traffic.
  • Price printed: previous price €5.50, displayed price €4.40 per month, for the first 24 months. The page says that displayed price includes applicable taxes.
  • Currency fields: structured data lists EUR 5.5, USD 6.6, and GBP 5.4. The €4.40 headline lists EUR 4.4, USD 5.279999999999999, and GBP 4.32. 5.50 × 1.2 = 6.60 and 4.40 × 1.2 = 5.28, arithmetic. Checkout is the amount you pay.
  • Fit: a site, mail, or dev box that runs all month and is memory-bound. A download host or a busy VPN exit wants a larger port.
  • Window: consumers have 14 days. Businesses do not. Full performance after express consent can end the right.

Figures are the ones printed on Contabo's Cloud VPS page on 7 October 2026. The specs page keeps the rest of the plan ladder and the US city list. The review is the buy-or-skip page.

1. What Cloud VPS 4 is

The Cloud VPS page describes the product as "Fast, affordable VPS: 4 vCPU Cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD, 1 Snapshot, unlimited Traffic. Affordable cloud hosting across EU, US, UK, Australia & Asia." That is the memory card. Eight gigabytes at the entry plan is the reason to look at it. The same card shows a previous price of €5.50 and a displayed price of €4.40 per month, with the line for the first 24 months. The page says the displayed price is the effective monthly rate for a 24-month subscription, including applicable taxes.

Euro amountsPrevious €5.50, displayed €4.40 / month, first 24 months
Currency fieldsEUR 5.5, USD 6.6, GBP 5.4 in structured data. EUR 4.4, USD 5.279999999999999, GBP 4.32 on the €4.40 headline

5.50 × 1.2 = 6.60 and 4.40 × 1.2 = 5.28. 5.50 × 0.8 = 4.40. The headline dollar, 5.279999999999999, is 5.28 when rounded to cents. The 1.2 products are arithmetic on the euro and dollar fields. The 0.8 product is the gap between the previous euro and the displayed euro. None of them is a checkout total. Including VAT and Excluding VAT are labels in the price component. They are not the names of the previous price and the displayed price. The specs page keeps the city list.

2. The port is the network limit

The Cloud VPS page says "Every Cloud VPS plan comes with unlimited inbound and outbound data transfer. Port speeds run from 200 Mbit/s up to 1 Gbit/s. Fair usage policies apply." Unlimited is the transfer. The port on Cloud VPS 4 is 200 Mbit/s. A page, a small shop, or mail will not fill that port. A file mirror, a backup target that other machines pull from, or a VPN with many sessions will sit on the port while the transfer counter still says unlimited.

The footnote on outgoing traffic says Contabo reserves the right to throttle servers with exceptionally high or disruptive usage patterns. That is a fair-usage control, not a second transfer cap with a published number of terabytes. If the workload needs a faster port, the same page raises the port on larger plans, up to 1 Gbit/s. That ladder is the published way to a wider port.

3. SSD on this card, NVMe later

The Cloud VPS page answers the Core CPU question with "Core VPS runs on proven infrastructure across multiple CPU generations, virtualized with KVM. Hardware is selected for workloads like web hosting, CMS, email, and dev environments, where CPU is rarely the bottleneck. RAM and network throughput are what move performance for these workloads, and those specs are generously allocated across the Core VPS lineup." Read that as Contabo's own sizing: memory and the port, on hardware it calls proven. Cloud VPS 4's storage line in the product description is 100 GB SSD.

Later cards on that page print an SSD and NVMe pair. Cloud VPS 6's storage line is 200GB SSD / 100GB NVMe. Wanting NVMe does not require leaving the Core page. It does require a card that prints NVMe, which the Cloud VPS 4 description does not.

4. When to leave this card

Stay on Cloud VPS 4 when 8 GB is the scarce resource and 200 Mbit/s is enough. Move up the Core list when you need the higher port, more RAM, or the NVMe option printed on a later card. The Cloud VPS page says "If your workload outgrows the top Core VPS tier, the next step up is the Performance VPS line, offering the latest generations of AMD EPYC CPUs, NVMe storage, and high bandwidth. That migration is a one-time move, not an in-place upgrade." Performance is the step after the top Core tier, not the step after Cloud VPS 4. Current CPUs and high bandwidth are what that sentence offers. The move is a migration.

5. The 14 days

The terms give consumers fourteen days to withdraw without stating grounds, and say the right does not apply for businesses. The withdrawal page says "Your right of withdrawal will expire when we have fully performed the service and have only started to perform the service after you have given your express consent to this, transmitted on a durable data medium, and at the same time confirmed your knowledge that you will lose your right of withdrawal upon full performance of the service by us." If you gave that consent and the service has been fully performed, do not treat day 14 as still open. The same page offers an Automated Revocation System as an alternative to mail. Use it, or the notify path printed on that page, inside the window that still applies to you.

Order a monthly term if you are using those days to look at the machine. The page's contract line is a minimum initial term of 1 month, a following term equal to the initial term, and cancellation notice of none when prepaid or 4 weeks when postpaid. The review covers the setup fee that checkout can add on a short term.

6. What forum posts are describing

LowEndTalk threads linked below, from 2024, do not agree with each other. Some posters describe slow disk, high CPU steal, and an IPv6 check that came back offline on the machine they had just ordered. Others describe years of use for storage or seeding, where the disk and the port were not the job. Those are their machines and their tools. This guide does not republish their speeds as Contabo's specification.

Use the 14 days on your own server. Confirm the port you received is the 200 Mbit/s the card prints, not a surprise and not something a ticket is documented to raise. Confirm IPv6 on the image you chose if you need it. If the disk is too slow for the job, write down what you measured and open a ticket, or withdraw while the consumer right still applies and order a card that prints NVMe. Neither outcome is promised by the threads.

7. Who should order it

Order Cloud VPS 4 for a site, a mailbox, or a dev box that stays on all month and needs 8 GB more than it needs a wide port. Skip it for a download server, a media store, or a VPN exit with many users. The Cloud VPS page states the term as "Minimum initial contract length: 1 month | Minimum following contract length: Equal to the initial contract length | Minimum cancellation notice: None (pre-paid) or 4 weeks (post-paid)." Read the checkout total before you pay. The card says that displayed rate includes applicable taxes. The home page's $6.60 matches the USD 6.6 low price beside EUR 5.5. It is that field, not the displayed €4.40 and not a receipt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does unlimited traffic mean a fast port?

No. Cloud VPS 4 prints a 200 Mbit/s port. The same page says every Cloud VPS plan comes with unlimited inbound and outbound data transfer, and that fair usage policies apply. The transfer allowance and the port are two different lines.

What should I check in the 14 days?

Consumers have fourteen days from the agreement, and the terms say that right does not apply for businesses. The withdrawal page says the right expires when Contabo has fully performed the service after you gave express consent, on a durable medium, and confirmed that you knew the right would end at full performance. Before that, check that the machine matches the card: 4 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB SSD, and a 200 Mbit/s port. Check whether IPv6 is up on the image you installed. If the disk is the problem, open a ticket with what you measured on that machine. A faster port is a larger plan.

Is the disk NVMe?

Cloud VPS 4's product description prints 100 GB SSD. Later cards on the same page print an SSD and NVMe pair. Cloud VPS 6's storage line is 200GB SSD / 100GB NVMe. The page says the Performance VPS line, after the top Core tier, offers current AMD EPYC CPUs, NVMe storage, and high bandwidth, and that moving there is a one-time migration.

Is $6.60 the amount a US order pays?

The en-us page on 7 October 2026 shows a previous price of €5.50 and a displayed price of €4.40 per month, for the first 24 months. The page says the displayed price is the effective monthly rate for a 24-month subscription, including applicable taxes. Structured data lists EUR 5.5, USD 6.6, and GBP 5.4. The headline object on €4.40 lists EUR 4.4, USD 5.279999999999999, and GBP 4.32. 5.50 × 1.2 = 6.60, and 4.40 × 1.2 = 5.28. The headline dollar is 5.28 when rounded to cents. That is arithmetic on those fields, not a checkout total. The amount to pay is the checkout total for your term and location. The specs page keeps the city list.
