An earlier version of this URL ranked InMotion against unmanaged hosts with CPU, disk and network scores framed as this site's own tests, including 42,000 read IOPS and 850 Mbps. None of those figures were measured here, and they have been removed.
1. Four hardware tiers and the $9.99 button
The live InMotion VPS specs sit on inmotionhosting.com/vps-hosting. The same four-tier widget also prints on the cPanel VPS and Linux VPS marketing pages. Four named plans share NVMe, a 1 Gbps network chip, full root, DDoS protection, dedicated IPs, 24/7 human support, a 99.99% uptime chip, and a "Free Migration" chip. Launch Assist is printed as "Onboarding and Server Setup ($199 one-time value)" on every card. That $199 is a value claim on the card, not a fee this page verified at checkout.
| Plan as printed | vCPU | RAM | NVMe | Bandwidth as printed | Dedicated IPs | 36-month intro / mo | Renewal / mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VPS 4 vCPU | 4 | 8 GB | 160 GB | 5 TB | 2 | $9.99 | $16.99 |
| VPS 8 vCPU | 8 | 16 GB | 260 GB | Unlimited | 3 | $19.99 | $46.99 |
| VPS 12 vCPU | 12 | 24 GB | 360 GB | Unlimited | 5 | $31.99 | $76.99 |
| VPS 16 vCPU | 16 | 32 GB | 460 GB | Unlimited | 10 | $39.99 | $111.99 |
VPS 16 also prints "Docker Compatible." The 36-month column is the lowest intro each SKU printed on 1 October 2026. Each SKU also has 24-month, 12-month, and monthly buttons at higher intros; those four prices for VPS 4 are in the next table. Amounts are USD as printed. Tax basis is not stated next to them.
The $9.99 button is VPS 4 only. Its prepaid total, from the Select button's data-presentation-price, is $359.64. $9.99 x 36 = $359.64; that product matches the attribute. The matching renewal attribute is $611.64, which is $16.99 x 36.
Select button data-term | Intro / mo as printed | Prepaid total (attribute) | Arithmetic on intro | Renews at / mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | $9.99 | $359.64 | $9.99 x 36 = $359.64 | $16.99 |
| 24 | $13.99 | $335.76 | $13.99 x 24 = $335.76 | $26.99 |
| 12 | $14.99 | $179.88 | $14.99 x 12 = $179.88 | $26.99 |
| 1 | $16.99 | $16.99 | printed monthly | $36.99 |
Budget the renewal unless checkout shows a different second invoice. A 24-month VPS 4 intro is $13.99, not $9.99. A monthly VPS 4 intro is $16.99 and renews at $36.99.
2. The visible 24-month label, and the 36-month button
This is the turn. Every VPS 4 slide on that widget prints the same visible caption: "For 24 month term." The four Select buttons do not share a term. Their HTML carries data-term values of 36, 24, 12 and 1, and the prepaid totals above only match if those integers are months. $9.99 times 24 is $239.76, which is not the $359.64 on the $9.99 button. Treat the button attributes and the arithmetic as the term identity; treat the repeated "24 month" caption as a label that did not change when the slide did.
The 24-month VPS 4 button is the $13.99 intro that renews at $26.99 (prepaid $335.76). If another page on this site still writes "$9.99 on a 24-month term," that is not this card. This specs page follows the Select buttons on the VPS Hosting URL, not the homepage card or the control-panel prices page.
3. cPanel: included, or a checkout line?
Do not flatten this. The cPanel VPS FAQ answers "How Much Does VPS Hosting with cPanel Cost?" with: "Each plan includes a licensed cPanel installation, root access, free server setup, and support for unlimited websites." The same FAQ lists cPanel access, free transfers and server setup, free SSL, 24/7 human support, and a 90-day money-back guarantee among what is included.
The cPanel license article, table last updated 26 June 2026, draws a different line: "Managed VPS Hosting and Managed Dedicated Servers carry a license priced by tier, listed as a separate line item at checkout." Shared Hosting and Hosting for WordPress include cPanel in the plan price. Reseller includes the license and caps child accounts instead of billing per account.
Managed VPS license prices in that table, for 5 accounts: $29.50 for 1 month, $177.00 for 6 months, $354.00 for 1 year, $708.00 for 2 years, $1,062.00 for 3 years. Higher account tiers step up from there. Adding Premier Care requires a cPanel license (cPanel 5 on VPS), "its own charge alongside the bundle." Control Web Panel is the published alternative whose "Pricing does not scale with account count."
This site did not complete a checkout, so it cannot say which of those two stories the cart currently prints. If a cPanel line appears, it is not folded into $9.99. Changing from cPanel to CWP later, the VPS FAQ says, "requires you to purchase a new hosting plan as cPanel and CWP have different operating system requirements."
4. Managed, Launch Assist, and self-managed SSH
The VPS FAQ splits the product. Managed VPS Hosting is "complete hands-off management": OS security patches, cPanel or CWP, and WHM updates overseen in-house, plus "Premier 24/7 Live Support, Launch Assist, cPanel, and Web Host Manager (WHM)." Self-managed "do not come with cPanel, nor other graphical user interface (GUI) software for server management, only SSH." The included-in-all-plans chip still prints "Full Root Access" on the widget that also sells the managed cards.
Launch Assist is the transfer offer. "A VPS with an added control panel comes with two free hours of dedicated support with a trained SysAdmin." Then the exclusion: "Free website transfers do not apply to unmanaged VPS Hosting plans without a control panel." The sales phone printed on the VPS page is +1-757-995-2244. This page did not call it.
5. 5 TB, Unlimited, and the bandwidth policy
VPS 4 prints 5 TB. VPS 8, 12 and 16 print Unlimited Bandwidth. The legal page on bandwidth and disk usage still applies to Services: they are "intended for reasonable, as determined by the Company, business use only." "Any activity that results in excessive usage inconsistent with reasonable usage patterns is strictly prohibited." Usage "shall not exceed the amounts set by Company for the Services (the 'Agreed Usage')." Corrective action can include extra charges, disconnection, deletion of content, or termination, with no refund of fees already paid. That is not a published Mbps throttle, and it is not a promise that Unlimited has no ceiling.
The hosting agreement also has a sentence about the word "Unlimited" that is scoped to "an applicable Web Hosting Product" used "solely to host websites." This page does not paste that shared-hosting sentence onto the VPS 8 card.
The visible chip on every VPS plan is "1 Gbps Network Speed." The same URL's HTML also contains: "Our servers establish a network connection speed of 100 Mbps and data transfer speeds of 12.5 Mbps, depending on your internet service provider." Both strings are on the product page. This site measured neither, and does not pick a port speed from them.
6. California, Virginia, Amsterdam
The locations FAQ is short: "InMotion Hosting offers VPS Hosting within our data center locations in California and Virginia, USA, as well as within a European data center in Amsterdam, Netherlands." The included chips say "Global Data Centers." That is the published list for this page. It does not rank California against Virginia, and it does not invent a latency number. City-level routing is a checkout question; the US datacenter guide maps US regions without an InMotion performance table.
7. 90-day, 30-day, and the $50 early cancel
The money-back page splits the clock by product and term. Shared Hosting and Hosting for WordPress get a full 90-day money-back guarantee. "The same applies to 6-month or longer subscription terms for VPS Hosting, UltraStack One for WordPress, and Reseller Hosting plans." Month-to-month VPS Hosting is "eligible for a full refund within the first 30 days of purchase, prior to your first renewal." Minecraft hosting is a 7-day product on that page, not this ladder. "Add-ons, domain fees, and professional services are non-refundable."
Outside that window, cancellation is still allowed, with a bill. The term and cancellation policy: "Customer will be subject to a minimum $50.00 charge as an early cancellation fee." "If Customer cancels this Agreement, no refund will be provided for unused time on the Account if outside the criteria of the Money Back Guarantee." "Customer shall be obligated to pay one hundred percent (100%) of all charges for all Services for each month remaining in the Term." The same policy auto-renews for a term of equal length unless cancelled. A 36-month $9.99 intro that is cancelled on month 13 is not a month-to-month exit at $9.99.
8. Snapshots and Backup Manager
Snapshots are documented for Managed and Cloud VPS. They capture the whole container, including running processes, and restore that point. They are not a file-level archive: individual files cannot be restored from a snapshot, and InMotion does not offer restore-elsewhere as an integrity test. Free storage lasts up to 7 days from creation, then the snapshot is deleted unless it is moved into a long-term storage slot in AMP. "You are limited to one snapshot." Weekly scheduled snapshots "will no longer be created by default"; the option can still be enabled in AMP. Long-term slots cost "a pro-rated amount of $1.00 per month until your next renewal."
Backup Manager is a separate product. The WHM guide says backups "are stored on a separate server," purchased from AMP, with extra space in 10 GB increments. The VPS Backup Manager guide: "To start, you are given a 10 GB block of storage space for your backups." That 10 GB block is the published starting allotment for the add-on, not a silent 30-day off-server backup included in $9.99.
9. What these pages do not print
- Tax, sales tax, or VAT next to the USD amounts. Unknown on the cards and on the terms excerpt opened for this page.
- A CPU model or a plan IOPS integer. Storage is labelled NVMe SSD.
- Which line items the cart actually adds for cPanel, Premier Care, or Launch Assist. Buttons and articles were read; checkout was not completed.
- A Windows VPS SKU table on the URLs read for this page. That is a scope note, not a claim about other InMotion products.
- SLA credit math behind the 99.99% uptime chip. The chip is marketing copy on the plan widget until a credit schedule is read.
10. Measuring the parts that are not published
CPU model, disk IOPS and achievable throughput are measurable on a server you control. InMotion prints full root on this widget, so those commands can run as far as the account allows. This site publishes none of those measurements. The benchmarks hub has the commands used on providers that sell a root VPS. The 1 Gbps chip and the 100 Mbps HTML sentence are both vendor strings; a buyer who wants a port number runs iperf3 from the datacenter they actually received.
The InMotion VPS review is a separate URL. This page does not take scores, $24.99, 4 GB SSD, or phone-pickup claims from it. For a cheap US VPS with a printed monthly grid and no intro term, see cheapest VPS. Another managed-panel intro-versus-renewal write-up on this site is the hosting.com managed Linux specs page; it is a cousin, not a ranking.
Before treating $9.99 as the bill, read the 36-month prepaid total, the renewal, the cPanel line if the cart shows one, and the refund clock that matches the term you actually buy. InMotion links on this page are plain official URLs, not affiliate links.
